CCTV footage captured the missing boy’s last known movements and a search operation is now underway in the city of Mumbai in the western Indian state of Maharashtra after the authorities realised he had fallen down a drain.
In the black and white footage, the tot is seen walking into a road on his own before pausing and walking back towards the pavement.
Unaware of the open storm drain, obscured by what appears to be a telephone junction box, the boy suddenly disappears down the hole.
According to local media, the boy went missing at around 10.24pm and the Mumbai Fire Brigade were alerted when the CCTV footage revealed what happened to the youngster.

Firefighters, local police, ambulance staff and paramedics are involved in the ongoing search operation taking place in the Mumbai suburb of Goregaon, according to local media.
Residents believe the boy could have been swept to a nearby drain and social activist Sharavan Tiwari said that officials checked four spots along a 10-kilometre (6.2-mile) drainage line during the night, but to no avail, according to local media.
There have been no further updates and the hunt for the three-year-old boy continues.
