The incident was filmed at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in the city of Jaipur in the north-western Indian state of Rajasthan and shared on social media.
According to reports, the 30-year-old patient, identified as Mubarik, was admitted into hospital on 1st June with gastritis.
The hospital administration claimed that the patient was violent and assaulted two doctors despite relatives trying to calm him down.
According to local media, they also alleged that the video has been doctored to portray the public hospital in a negative light.
Raghu Sharma, Minister of Health and Family Welfare in Rajasthan, has asked for a full report on the incident while the state’s human rights commission has also demanded information from the hospital’s administration before 25th June.
Meanwhile, the patient has reportedly been sent home by the hospital.
In the footage, the resident doctor in a blue shirt is seen pummelling the patient before jumping on the bed to apparently slap his face at close quarters.
At the end of the clip, a doctor in a white coat intervenes and appears to gesture to his colleague to move away from the patient.
