The incident was filmed in the historic city of Kolhapur in the district of the same name located in the western Indian state of Maharashtra and later shared on social media.

According to reports, a heavy monsoon affected the area, causing flash floods and overflowing rivers.

A group of men went to the spot to catch fish, but two of them slipped and were swept downstream by the currents.

However, they managed to cling onto the upper branches of a tree and stopped themselves from being dragged further downstream, possibly averting tragedy.

A group of fishermen rushed to help them and threw a rope to their position.

Reports said that the group managed to pull the two men to safety and they were luckily unharmed.

Meanwhile, residents have called on the local authorities to prevent people from fishing in the area until it is safe again.

In the video footage, the two men are seen slipping into the fast-moving water and being dragged downstream.

They come to a stop at the tree and the fishermen throw them a rope.
