The incident was filmed by a shop security camera in the city of Jaipur in the north-western Indian state of Rajasthan.
According to the local police, three women entered the shop in the Tripolia Bazaar under the pretence of wanting to buy traditional sari garments.
Shop owner Shantilal Lodha suspected them of foul play when they left the clothing store without purchasing anything.
After he checked the shop’s stock, Lodha discovered that several items worth 20,000 INR (220 GBP) were missing.
Meanwhile, the cops have confirmed that they have a firm lead on the case and are hopeful of arresting the suspects soon.
In the video footage, three women wearing saris are seen entering the shop and while one of them engrosses the shop owner in conversation, the other two rile through the clothes on display.
Lodha spots the women grabbing handfuls of different saris and comes over to put them back on the shelf.
He then goes back to talking to the woman near the door as the suspected shoplifter closest to the camera stuffs several saris up her dress.
Again distracted by the customer by the entrance, Lodha fails to spot the woman in an orange headscarf also placing items up her dress.
The two shoplifters then leave the store as the owner continues talking to the female client.
