According to reports, the boy, a student at the Sanskriti KMV School in Jalandhar, an ancient city in the northern Indian state of Punjab, was taken to the nearby Civil Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The deceased, named Arav Mehta, was killed at the school gate in front of shocked parents and students.
The victim’s grandfather Pawan Mehta arrived to pick up him and his twin sister Avni on his scooter.
He stopped to take a phone call and when he finished, he got on his scooter and lost control, toppling the two children onto the ground just as a school bus was passing.
Little Arav was killed while his sister also suffered head injuries, according to local media.
The grandfather said that he “lost balance of the scooter and Arav, who was sitting on the rear seat, fell down and [was] crushed under the wheels of the bus”.
He added: “Luckily, I managed to protect Avni, who was standing on the front footrest.”
Mehta was collecting the children as both of their parents were at work
According to police spokesperson Rupinder Singh, after interviewing family members it was decided to not register a case against the grandfather.
