The victim’s relatives believe the wife’s brother planned the brutal attack which was recorded by an onlooker in the city of Hyderabad in the state of Telangana in India central India after the victim, named as 23-year-old Imitiaz, had reportedly married one of the attacker’s female relatives without her parents’ consent.
Reports state Zainab Fatima had left home and married Imitiaz in secret without her parents’ consent and without them knowing what she was doing and she was also injured in the attack. According to reports, her finger was cut off.
The parents are then said to have called the police but the newlywed couple reportedly went to a police station to explain what had happened.
The officers explained what had happened to the parents and they came and picked the couple up.
However, a senior Hyderabad police officer surnamed Thirupathanna told reporters: “The police had counselled both sides at the SR Nagar police station and the woman’s family had responded positively. However, after coming out, it seems like they carried out a planned attack.”
In the video, Imitiaz, in a beige shirt, can be seen walking away from a 4WD when a young man in a blue shirt goes running after him into the middle of a busy street.
The man in blue appears to be holding a knife and begins stabbing the victim, whose shirt can be seen turning red with blood.
Onlookers try to hold the knifeman back but he shrugs them off as the victim is knocked to the ground.
The thug continues stabbing the victim as he lies on the ground before eventually being stopped by onlookers who can be heard screaming.
Another angle shows how a woman, reportedly Fatima, can be seen trying to protect the victim during the vicious attack and another man, who has not been identified, stamps on him when he is down.
The victim is reportedly battling for his life in hospital.
Local media report six people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing and they named as Syed Farooq Ali, 25, Ahmed Ali, 26, Zakera Begum,42, and Syed Mosin Ali, 50, Mohammed Ali, 35, and Syed Zeba Fatima, no age given.
Police spokesman Thirupathanna said: “Imtiaz was attacked by his in-laws because the woman’s father, Syed Ali, held a grudge about the couple getting married.” Reports state those arrested include Fatima’s father, brothers and brother-in-law.
The investigation is ongoing but it is unclear if any of those arrested have been charged.
