Scared 5yo Bear Chased And Netted During City Walkabout

This footage shows a 5-year-old bear surrounded by locals and trapped in a net after the creature was earlier chased by cops and startled by traffic after venturing to a town in search of food and water.

The footage was shot in the Devaraj Urs Colony which is in the city of Koppal in the Indian state of Karnataka and shows the police chasing after the bear, which then the animal runs onto a crowded street with a market in the background.

Bothered by the passing traffic and people in front of it, and the shouting police behind, the bear then climbs over a wall to escape.

The animals is then seen in separate footage running down a deserted street with people looking at it from the rooftops and a crowd following behind, and then on another occasion it is seen pacing backwards and forwards along the top of a wall before climbing to the ground.

It appears that the bear, which is believed to have been about five years old, had entered the city looking for food and water. The last scenes show the bear captured by a shouting mob in the courtyard who are using nets and sticks to secure it as it panics and struggles to break free.

Police say that the young bear had not attacked anyone as it ran around and they confirmed that after being netted, it had been tranquilised.

District Forest Officer (RFO) Yashpal Ksheersagar said the bear hadweighed 100 kilos and added: “It will be sent to a zoo or released in a nearby forest.”
