The startling scene was recorded by an onlooker on a vineyard in the village of Puranear the town of Devanahalli in the state of Karnataka of south-western India after the dogs spotted the cobra in the grass.

In the video, the three dogs can be seen running around the cobra which was reared up and opened its famous hood in the face of danger.

The dogs bark wildly and take it turns to run and bite the reportedly poisonous cobra whilst trying to avoid it striking them.

One of the dogs grabs the cobra’s body in its mouth and drags the snake across the grass before releasing it.

The cobra can be heard hissing at the dogs and trying to bite them as they continue their attack.

Reports state the dogs eventually killed the cobra and Krishnappa, the owner of the vineyard who raised and cares for the dogs, said he was relieved at the snake’s death.

He said poisonous snakes pose a great risk for his household which has many members, including young children.

He added: “The hissing of the cobra was quite scary, even for the person standing nearby to record the video. But the dogs simply went after it.”

He claimed that his dogs had killed two snakes over the last week. The exact species of cobra in the video is not clear.

It is currently unclear if the dogs were bitten by the deadly snake.
