A politician has been arrested over this footage in which a woman who reportedly owed him money is whipped and stamped on by a gang of thugs as she lies on the ground in front of her crying 5-year-old son.

The scenes were recorded by an onlooker in the city of Sri Muktsar Sahib in the district of the same name in the Sri Muktsar Sahib district in the state of Punjab in northern India and the victim was reportedly left in a critical state in hospital.
In the video, the victim, who has not been named, can be seen on the ground as a thug whips her with a leather belt.
Another man can be seen stamping on her as an elderly woman, identified in reports as the victim’s mother, tries to stop them.
The thugs continue their assault with at least four men participating in the beating.
A boy, identified as the victim’s five-year-old son, can be heard crying as the woman is brutally whipped and stamped on.
The woman can be seen lying motionless on the ground as the thugs stamp on her and continue whipping her as they push onlookers away.
Reports state the victim was taken to a local hospital in a “critical condition” whilst six arrests have been made.
Local media report the beating came after the woman had not paid back the interest on a loan of 23,000 INR (260 GBP).
One of those arrested has been named as Muktsar municipal councillor, Rakesh Chaudhary with reports suggesting his brother Suresh was one of those who carried out the beatings. The thugs are said to have dragged the woman out of her home to carry out the beating in the street.
The police are searching for another four men, with local Superintendent Manjit Singh Dhesi saying cases of attempted murder, trespassing, assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty and criminal conspiracy had been opened against the 10 suspects.
Those arrested have been charged and were released on a two-day remand, according to reports.
There are no updates on the victim’s condition and the investigation is ongoing.
