The girl’s mother who had previously complained to police and been ignored had then posted images on Facebook as a desperate appeal for help.
Police identified the man in the video as 38-year-old Krishna Muktibodh who was living in a third-floor flat in the city of Patna located in India’s eastern state of Bihar, with the girl.
The video reportedly sparked complaint afters being posted online leading to the police intervening.
Police said the video had been posted by the man’s wife Naina Kumari. She said that she was desperate for help from anybody to rescue her daughter from her estranged husband.
It was revealed that he was previously a lecturer but had lost his job around three years ago because of his drinking habit.
His wife left him because of the violent attacks it would launch when he came home from work after drinking, as she had also filed a criminal complaint with police.
But they had rejected her complaint, and worse, tried to force her to go back with him. Eventually she managed to escape his clutches taking two of her daughters, but the third child, aged five, was left behind when she fled.
She said that ever since then he had been sending her daily videos of him beating the child to try and force her to come back. When she posted online she begged people to help her in saving her daughter, the video quickly went viral.
After confirming the video was genuine, and also identifying an additional four videos, police arrested the father who was drunk and still with his daughter when he was handcuffed, reports said.
They said they have arranged for the girl’s mother to come to Patna to collect the child.
