The young woman, who was not named, also accused the infrastructure company in Cyber City, which is in the city of Gurgaon, in Northern India’s Haryana State, of “not having the proper environment for women employees.”
She had been given a contract that she was expecting would be renewed and threatened to jump when she found out that was not the case.
Footage shows her standing on the fifth floor earlier this week with police already present, and a work colleague attempting to persuade her to climb down from the edge.
The company rejected the woman’s claim that they did not have a women friendly workplace, and said that the decision not to extend the contract was because her performance was “unsatisfactory”.
Once the clip was posted online of the incident in the upmarket business district, people started flocking to the area to look at the balcony, with some asking whether the clip had even been real.
A police spokesman confirmed that the incident had happened, but that they were not investigating because neither side had filed a complaint.
They confirmed the incident ended when the woman’s colleague persuaded her to climb down from the edge.
The video also shows a man, wearing a pink shirt and black trouser, carefully approaching the woman and convincing her to step down. After a few minutes, the woman is seen coming down off the edge holding the man’s hand. Policemen are also visible in the video.
Police spokesman Insp Vivek Kundu said this video was recorded by people gathered near the building when the woman was threatening to kill herself.
He said: “On 24th May, when she got to know that the company was not hiring her as a permanent employee following the end of her probationary period, she threatened to kill herself.”
